This is our last solid free day, since tomorrow we’re moving to a hotel. So, we made it extra kawaii. We spent the first half of the day hanging out in the Harajuku area one more time, and then we went to Sanrio Puroland. Here are some highlights, followed by the photos I posted to Instagram that day: 

First thing in the morning, I went back to Nalu Salon 76 to have my hair dyed purple again, since the color had almost completely faded. I wrote about this in Re-purpled. While I was in the salon, my friend Rebecca had forwarded me an Instagram photo from Dominique Ansel Bakery Tokyo – apparently it’s their anniversary, and they were celebrating with a special flavor of soft serve ice cream. So, of course I had to go there once more after I had finished getting my hair done.

In the meantime Jason had met up with Curt, one of his Kickstarter backers who has been living in Japan for 15 years. The three of us had lunch in the area. And then we went to Sanrio Puroland. Jason had asked me a couple times if I wanted to go to Tokyo Disneyland and eventually I asked him if they have Sanrio characters. When he looked it up to find out, he discovered that Sanrio has its own theme park. So, of course we had to go check it out.

Sario Puroland is mostly a giant Sanrio store. But it also has a theater with a giant tree in the middle where we saw a crazy floor show featuring people dressed as Sanrio characters, dancers, acrobats, witches, and brightly decorated vehicles. There was an area designed to be Hello Kitty’s house. There were themed games and photo booths. And there were restaurants with food shaped like cartoon characters. It was super cute.

For dinner we had curry at a Japanese fast food curry place that was really quite good!

Walking tally: Fitbit says I walked 18k steps today, which is a little over 7.5 miles. That’s a total of over 191 miles of walking for the trip so far.
